Phonograph Cylinders - Better than the MP3?

| | Comments (1)

I was amazed today to be informed that phonograph cylinders are still being manufactured. Madame Pamita dropped us a line a while back and surprised us with some cool music recorded on Cylinders by Peter Dilg, of the Edison Historical Site, and it looks like others are joining in the fun. Thanks to cylinder user Tom Rodwell for this information.

Hey Larry! The Tape-Op connection to this story goes even deeper. If it weren't for the interview of Chris Butler that I read in the mag, I never would have found Peter Dilg. Chris recorded an amazing album called, "The Museum of Me" in which he recorded one of the tracks on wax cylinder. I contacted Chris, who put me in touch with Peter. After I had set up recording time with Peter, I met Tom (an amazing rural blues and proto-blues player), who was also recording with Duncan Miller on wax cylinder in the UK. Now, Tom and I are going to be doing a small tour in England this May where we plan to record on wax with Duncan live before an audience. I am having amazing recording adventures... and I truly do owe it all to you! So, a huge heartfelt thank you! I appreciate the magic that you work. Madame Pamita (Pam)
